2022: A Letter from The Advisory Board

Dear Friends,

Each year we send out a letter, usually around the holidays, to fill you in on some of the activities of the Guild of St Margaret Soup Kitchen over the past year. Last year, the holidays seem to come and go in a flash, as many of us were dealing with the surge in cases of the Omicron variant of COVID 19 and its impact on our families, friends and neighbors.   Not surprisingly, as cases surged in our area, the number of people in need of daily food support continued to grow. The Guild of St Margaret continued last year and into this year to work to meet this need by providing on a to go basis both a daily hot meal and a cold meal.

The good news which we want to share with you is that as of May 2 of this year, the Guild of St Margaret Soup Kitchen reopened for indoor dining. The preparation for this reopening took a lot of staff and volunteer time and effort as the serving line was upgraded and reorganized and we moved to smaller (4 person) dining tables spread out around the dining room. While we have opened for indoor dining, we continue to provide both a hot and cold “to go” meal for those people who have medical issues which may prevent them from getting to our building to use the dining room. We are so grateful we are once again able to offer a place of safety, rest and community in which to enjoy nutritious meals in community with one another.

Even in this time of growing financial insecurity, especially for those closest to the poverty line, it is thanks to your support of the Guild of St Margaret Soup Kitchen that we have been able to provide daily meals to anyone seeking one since June of 1980! We hope that you will consider making a charitable contribution to support the ongoing mission of the Guild of St Margaret to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry. As always, thank you for your generous support.

Faithfully, The Guild of St. Margaret Advisory Board
